Low cost shopping in Dublin

While it’s easier than ever to do all your shopping online there is still so much to find and a lot to enjoy by visiting highstreet stores and searching for great deals in local shops.

Here are a few great spots we think you should check out:

  • George’s Street Arcade

George’s Street Arcade is an historic shopping centre situated on South Great George’s Street. The venue is a purpose-built Victorian Shopping Centre in Dublin and is one of the most popular places to go shopping in the city.

It is home to a number of stalls and shops where you can buy quirky gifts, little nick-nacks and tasty treats. You can spend a whole day there exploring every corner, speaking to shop owners and browsing the shelves. There is so much to learn about Dublin by visiting George’s Street and it is a fantastic place to find low cost deals.

  • Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre

Located in the heart of the city, Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre is a large indoor shopping centre. It has over 100 outlets including major retailers like Boots, Gamestop, Dunnes Stores and TK Maxx. Even though the majority of the stores are not precisely cheap, TK Maxx is definitely a great option if you are looking for low cost shopping.

  • Dundrum Town Centre

Dundrum Town Centre is a large shopping centre located in the South of Dublin that is one of the most modern and accessible places to shop in the whole city. There are many shops, some are on the expensive side of things, but it is mostly a place where anyone in the city can come and shop.

Since it first opened, the shopping centre has been extended. It now has four floors, a total retail floor area of 1.5 million square feet and parking for around 3,400 cars. If you want to do low cost shopping for a variety of items then the Dundrum Town Centre is a great place to visit.

  • The Green Door Market

You won’t find a friendlier, more welcoming market in Dublin than The Green Door Market. All situated under one roof in Dublin’s Liberties district The Green Door Market is a fantastic place to browse food stalls and shop in comfort. You can find Irish cheeses, cakes, fruit and vegetable stalls, deli meats and a fully-stocked grocery.

Every Saturday the market is bustling and the atmosphere is great. As well as the regular Saturday showing, every fourth Sunday of the month the vibrant Brocante Flea Market can be found under the same roof as the Green Door Market.

  • Penneys

To find the cheapest shopping areas of Dublin you will have to travel north; to Henry street, home to the cheapest department store in Ireland called Penneys.

You may not be familiar with this name but outside of Ireland they are known as Primark, which probably rings a bell. Penneys in Dublin is a huge store with almost everything at very low cost prices. You can usually find interesting discounts on certain items.

Discover Dublin

Dublin is a fantastic city to explore. You can discover so much just by wandering around the main city streets. As well as the vibrant and varied markets, there are quaint little shops tucked down side streets and huge shopping venues to get lost in.

For example, very close to Grafton street, you will find a very cute store called OM Diva where you can buy second hand and vintage clothes for reasonable prices. Places like OM Diva are great spots to find exciting and affordable vintage fashion and to learn a bit about the Dublin fashion scene.

Of course, one of the best options to get cheap clothing is to visit the flea markets that are organized around town like: Dublin Flea Market which takes place on the last Sunday of every month and the Ha’penny Flea Market. Whichever weekend you choose to go shopping in Dublin there will be some sort of market open and ready to be explored.

As well as markets and shopping centres there is the The Point Village Car Boot that takes place every Sunday morning. Car Boot Sales are a convenient place to find affordable items and you never know what you’re going to find.

Unlike at the shops or the markets, car boot sales are a place where you can haggle and negotiate prices to ensure you are getting the best deal possible. To truly discover Dublin’s best deals you might have to go beyond the shopping centres and start browsing the markets and the car boot sales.
