Top 8 Scholarships

  • Black at Microsoft Scholarship Program

The Black at Microsoft Scholarship Program provides students with extra support during their four years at college. Eligible students can receive up to $20,000.

To be eligible you must be of African descent and you must be planning to attend college as soon as you graduate from high school. Microsoft is a massive company that needs staff with a variety of expertise. As a result their scholarship program covers a number of areas including engineering, finance, business administration, computer science and computer information systems.

  • Generation Google Scholarship

Google is another massive organization that offers a number of scholarships for promising students in the US. For students of African, Hispanic or Latino descent, Google has their Generation Google Scholarship program.

The Generation Google Scholarship awards up to $10,000 in financial assistance to students. These awards are granted on the basis of academic performance, leadership skills and the individual’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

  • Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Scholarship Program

This award, named after the famous African-American abolitionist, social reformer, statesman and writer Frederick Douglass, is one of the best known scholarships for black students in the US.

This scholarship awards two $10,000 scholarships each year to promising students attending historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). One is awarded the most exceptional young man and the other is awarded to the most promising young woman. To be eligible for this scholarship you must have a minimum GPA of 3.5, display a financial need and complete the FAFSA.

  • Ron Brown Scholar Program

The Ron Brown Scholar Program was created to provide support for Black and African American highschool seniors from economically challenged backgrounds.

The most exceptional candidates can receive up to $40,000 over the course of their studies at college. To apply to this program you need to provide two letters of recommendation, an official transcript, answers to essay questions and your SAT/ACT scores.

  • AMS Minority Scholarships

The American Meteorological Society awards scholarships to black and minority students that want to pursue a career in atmospheric or related meteorological studies.

Students can receive $6,000 over two years to help support them and push them towards success in their chosen field of study. To be eligible you need to be starting your first year of college in the US and you must be interested in a career in the realm of meteorology.

  • Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship

One of the other well known US scholarships for Black high school students is the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship.

Jackie Robinson was a famous American professional player who became the first African American to play in the MLB. His pioneering efforts made him a legend in US sport and beyond.

The scholarship which carries his name provides African-American and African national students up to $30,000 over four years to help cover education costs at colleges across the US. To be eligible, among other things, you have to demonstrate leadership potential or a desire to get involved in civic engagement.

  • American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program

The ACS Scholars Program provides renewable scholarships to students from underrepresented groups that want to study chemical sciences or chemistry-related courses.

Students who win this scholarship can receive up to $5,000 per year. Unlike some of the other scholarships on this list, this prize is renewable until a student graduates.

To apply you must either be a high school senior or already enrolled as a full-time college student. You must also be African American, of African descent or Hispanic, Latino or American Indian.

  • KnowBe4 Scholarship for Black Americans in Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity continues to be a vital area of study in colleges across the US. Students who want to major in cybersecurity or information assurance can get support during their college life by securing a KnowBe4 Scholarship.

The KnowBe4 Scholarship for Black Americans in Cybersecurity awards exceptional students with up to $10,000. Hopefully, this funding will allow students to succeed in their studies and have the resources to pursue extracurricular activities that will help to improve their cybersecurity skills.
