Here at Small World we have also seen a huge increase in customers using our global money transfer service and app. Hopefully, what might appear to be a slight disruption to your usual routine now will soon become a convenient new normal that frees up time and allows you to transfer money in a safe and efficient way.

Covid-19 has changed the world as we know it, including the money transfer sector. As people look to limit social contact we are turning to online services. This has led to a 72% increase in the use of financial technology apps across Europe, as well as six million people in Britain downloading a bank app for the first time.

Below is everything you need to know to get started with the Small World app.

Getting started

Digital services allow us to work, communicate and stay entertained during lockdown. Our app is a simple and secure way to send money globally to over 190 countries.

The first step is to download the Small World app from the App Store or Google Play, then you can create an account by entering:

  • The country you are sending money from
  • Your email address, first name and telephone number
  • Password
  • 4-digit passcode

Once you have entered this information you will receive an SMS code, enter this into the app to confirm setup.

The home screen of the Small World app is the Send To money transfer page, here you can:

  • Select your beneficiary’s destination
  • Enter the amount you wish to send
  • See the latest exchange rates and Small World transfer fee
  • Confirm and continue

At this point you can also add a promotional code if you have one. The first time you use this service you will receive an email from us asking you to validate your account. Once you have done this, we will ask for some extra information to complete your registration:

  • Date of Birth
  • Middle Name
  • Last Name

What ID do I need for my first money transfer?

You will also be asked to upload one piece of identification documentation. We accept the following:

  • Passport
  • Resident Card
  • Full Driver Licence

Send money in three easy steps

Step one

The first step is to select whether you are sending money to yourself or someone else and choose your preferred delivery method. Depending on the destination country, options might include bank deposit, cash pick-up, airtime top ups, mobile wallet or home delivery.

Step two

The next step is to add your beneficiary’s details. This information will differ depending on where you are sending your money to, but will include:

  • Beneficiary name
  • Phone number
  • Purpose of transaction
  • Relationship with beneficiary
  • Bank name
  • Account Number
  • Bank Branch

Step three

Once you have entered these details all that is left is to enter your method of payment and complete your transaction. As an added incentive for using our app, there will be no transaction fees on your first money transfer with Small World.

To help save time on future transfers, details of the friends, family and businesses that you have sent money to will be saved in the app so that you only have to input their details once.
