The Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) has entered a landmark agreement with Binance, one of the world’s largest blockchain and cryptocurrency companies.
Announced at the Gateway Gulf Investment Forum in Manama on November 5, 2025, the partnership will establish the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) first Crypto-as-a-Service (CaaS) integration by a bank. Pending approval from the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB), the initiative will allow BBK customers to buy, sell, and monitor cryptocurrencies directly through the bank’s mobile app.
Powered by Binance’s white-label technology and Plug & Play APIs, the system will let users manage both traditional and digital assets in a single platform without needing a separate Binance account. The collaboration blends everyday banking with secure access to the crypto market, marking a major step forward for Bahrain’s push toward regulated digital finance.
Merging tradition and technology
Yaser Alsharifi, BBK’s Group Chief Executive, described the collaboration as a step toward a digitally driven future for the bank. He emphasized that BBK wants to give its clients secure, user-friendly access to a broader set of financial opportunities.
For Binance, the partnership expands its institutional reach in the Gulf. Catherine Chen, Binance’s Head of VIP & Institutional, said Bahrain’s progressive financial environment makes it an ideal location for such an initiative.
The project builds on Bahrain’s reputation as a financial innovator. The CBB was among the first regulators in the region to license cryptocurrency exchanges, granting Binance Bahrain a full license in 2022. This strong regulatory foundation has allowed the Kingdom to attract fintech ventures that combine compliance with experimentation.
A regional turning point
Bahrain’s economy has long sought to diversify beyond oil, investing heavily in fintech and digital transformation. By bridging traditional banking and blockchain infrastructure, BBK’s collaboration with Binance reinforces the country’s goal of becoming a digital finance hub for the Middle East.
If approved, BBK’s service could redefine how Gulf banks engage with cryptocurrency, offering clients a trusted, regulated path into digital investing and marking a significant step in mainstream financial evolution across the region.
