The third quarter marked a turning point for the cryptocurrency industry, with solid growth in stablecoins, increasing institutional involvement, and clearer regulatory direction.
Blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) integration also became more pronounced, signaling the sector’s transition toward maturity. Investor confidence grew as key financial institutions, tech companies, and regulators aligned on clearer rules and broader use cases for digital assets. Market volatility persisted, but overall sentiment leaned optimistic as more investors viewed crypto as a legitimate part of the global financial system.
Stablecoins and institutional momentum
Stablecoins recorded more than US$46 billion in net inflows, underscoring investors’ preference for stability during uncertain market conditions. The U.S. GENIUS Act introduced the first federal framework for stablecoins, while the SEC’s Project Crypto and CFTC discussions on spot trading rules provided much-needed clarity.
USDT and USDC remained dominant, but newer tokens such as USDH gained traction, reflecting growing competition in yield-bearing assets. Meanwhile, crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw strong participation, with Bitcoin ETFs drawing US$55 billion in inflows by the end of the quarter.
Market performance and DeFi growth
Bitcoin began the period near US$100,000, briefly touched US$120,000, and ended around US$114,000. Ether outperformed with a jump from US$3,500 to over US$4,200, driven by active network use and institutional demand. DeFi platforms expanded, reaching a total value locked above US$160 billion, supported by Layer 2 scaling and real-world asset lending.
Collaborations between Chainlink and Intercontinental Exchange, along with PayPal’s backing of Hyperliquid’s USDH, highlighted growing links between traditional and decentralized finance.
Blockchain infrastructure and Q4 outlook
Advancements in cross-chain liquidity protocols and the Ethereum Fusaka hard fork improved scalability and efficiency across networks. The Google–Coinbase partnership showcased the power of combining AI and blockchain for faster, smarter transactions.
As regulators finalize token classifications and spot-trading rules, new crypto ETFs and broader institutional participation are expected in the next quarter, setting the stage for continued market growth.
