Bitcoin’s rise is drawing a different crowd, and Eric Trump believes that shift could reshape the crypto market. Institutional investors are taking a bigger role as governments compete to gain ground in digital assets and artificial intelligence. Once dominated by retail traders, the market now looks very different from just 18 months ago, according to the American Bitcoin co-founder.
Bitcoin attracts big money
Eric Trump told WOLF Financial CEO Gav Blaxberg that “the tides have turned” for Bitcoin, with institutions increasingly driving its price. Many large investors that dismissed crypto around 18 months ago have since changed course and embraced the asset, he said.
Trump also revealed that he built his own Bitcoin position by buying when prices were in the high-$50,000s to low-$60,000s. His bullish outlook comes as Bitcoin trades around $78,917, up more than 1% over the previous 24 hours.
American Bitcoin Corp., which Trump co-founded, currently holds 8,300 BTC and is primarily owned by Hut 8. Shares of ABTC closed more than 12% lower on Friday, although retail sentiment on Stocktwits remained bullish and discussion levels stayed high.
Crypto and AI race
Washington’s approach could accelerate crypto adoption beyond the US, Trump argued. He credited President Donald Trump’s administration with creating a friendlier environment as other governments develop their own rules. Part of that push is the CLARITY Act, scheduled for a September 15 vote. Countries across Asia and the United Arab Emirates are also moving quickly to regulate digital assets, Trump said.
Technology leadership goes beyond Bitcoin in his view. Trump linked the crypto and AI races, arguing that the US needs to stay ahead in both. “We are all in [the] crypto race,” he said, adding that America is “winning the AI race.” With institutions moving deeper into Bitcoin, Trump believes attitudes towards crypto are changing fast.
